3D chart quality diminishes when printed or made into a PDF

I've made several charts in Word 2007. The 3D charts (pie charts, bar charts,
etc.) become pixelated and the edges fuzzy when I print the files or when I
create a PDF from the files. This is in .docx files and 2003-compatible .doc
files. Why does the image quality reduce when it is printed or made into a
PDF?

This happens because of file compression when changing file types. You can
view the same thing when taking a high quality .bmp or .gif and saving it as
a .jpeg.

Is there a way to make a PDF with decent quality pie charts? I would just
make them into images, but the client prefers Word files with editable pie
charts. I have to PDF, however, to make a printed hard copy as well.

Thanks!
