3rd part support ofr Expression Web Designer???

E

E. T. Culling

One of the great failings of FrontPage was that, unlike Dreamweaver, it
lacked 3rd party support, apps etc. For instance all the great slide show
programs won't work with FrontPage. The FrontPage Gallery componet was a
failure years ago and they never fixed it!!
Another big problem with FP (and Publisher as well) was that it allowed
(even encouraged users) to do things that were just plain wrong. Example:
Publisher letting users Save As html to import into FP. We've told people
here over and over again not to use the image tools in FP. Taking Word files
and changing them to html was always a very bad idea.... had to get rid of
all that bloated Word code. How many gazillion hours have been wasted by
folks trying to make some of these things work.

If you feel your current issue is a results of installing
a Service Pack or security update, please contact
Microsoft Product Support Services:
http://support.microsoft.com
If the problem can be shown to have been caused by a
security update, then there is usually no charge for the call.

What kind of 3rd party support will this new program have, such as all the
extensions, slide show programs etc. that Dreamweaver has?

Well E.T,

It's pretty hard to say what 3rd party "add-ons" will be available until EWD gets closer to
RTM.
Doesn't make much sense to try to create / program an add on, when you don't yet know what
features the final product is actually going to contain.

There are already quite a few 3rd party programs with full support for
FP at present, all available from the many developers around creating
FP addins or from the FP Addin Center at MS.

I would expect (and plan as an addin developer) that EWD will be
exactly the same..heck we've already started releasing!

We've just completed updates on 6 of our Flash software/addin releases
to now include support for EWD, even in its current beta form. The
latest installers for Flash Navigation Maker, Flash MP3 Player Maker,
Flash Slideshow Maker and several others integrate into FrontPage
2000-2003, PowerPoint 2000-2003 (in some cases) and now Expression Web
Designer beta. See : www.expressionfx.com for details.

Most current FP addin developers have already committed to EWD with
announcements on their respective websites. Generally the future looks
very bright for both current FrontPage users that make the move to EWD
and for new users that join the web design community with EWD.
