4 x 10 calendar

We have Project Server 2007

The Project I am creating needs a 4x10 calendar.

All resources associated with this project has the standard United States
Calendar as their base calendars.

I went into each task and updated them to 4x10 and while saving the project
also changed the Project Calendar to 4x10, but the tasks are still showing
the duration as if it were an 8hr regular day.

The 4x10 calendar is not taking effect, what could I be doing wrong?

Please advise. Thanks!

The calendar you applied only affects the schedule of the task. The
Duration of each task is calculated using the Duration Equation (remember in
class?), which is:

Duration = Work / (Hours Per Day x Units)

You find the Hours Per Day value can be found by clicking Tool - Options -
Calendar. If every task in your project will be worked on the 4x10
schedule, then you should change the Hours Per Day value to 10 for this
project. Your Duration values will calculate correctly. Hope this helps.

Thank you! That really helps.

What about the situation where we have two resources, one working at 4x10
for this project only, and the other resource working at the regular 8hrs a
day?

Whatever number you specify for the Hours Per Day value will be used to
calculate the Duration of EVERY task using the Duration Equation. This
means that some Durations may appear to be incorrect, such as for resources
that work only 8 hours per day, but the schedule for those tasks will be
correct. You will just have to live with those few differences. Keep in
mind this fact: the schedule is correct, even if the Duration does not
appear to be correct. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I have one more question:

After I updated the task with the 4x10 calendar, I also went into Tool >
Options > Calendar to update the hours per day for duration.

But when I go to Resource usage view, it still pulls up information as 8hrs
allocated on the day that the task is assigned. Shouldn't it show 10hrs
because of the 4x10 calendar?

FYI...Our Resources use standard United State Calendar

Did you do the following set of steps when you applied the task calendar:

1. Double-click the task.
2. Select the Advanced tab.
3. Click the Calendar pick list and choose the 4x10 calendar.
4. Select the "Scheduling ignores resource calendars" option.
5. Click the OK button.

From your description, I think you failed to do step #4 above. Hope this
helps.
