4mb spreadsheet that wont get smaller when I remove contents

I have a spreadsheet that I have had sent to me by another user that is 4mb
in size.
I decided that I did not need all the worksheets and formulas and removed
most of them. I now only have two worksheets with no formulas and when saving
the file find that it is still 4mb in size. If i copy and paste the data out
a new excel file is only 25kb!

How do I defragment the existing file as I have many like this file that a
need to shrink.

Do a Ctrl-End. If that places you "out in the weeds" then delete all unnecessary rows and
columns and save the workbook.
