5+4 zip code won't merge

I am trying to use Excel 2002 for my database of church
members to produce mailing labels. Zip codes typed into
Excel with the 5+4 form merge into Word 2002 labels as a
zero(0). I have formatted the Excel column containing the
zip codes every way I can think of, text, general, number,
etc. Can anyone help?

Hi Jere,

Add the following numeric picture switch to the mergefield in the mail merge
main document

{ MergeField [zipcodefieldname] \# "00000'-'0000" }

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps

Sorry, but I'm a real novice at Word and I don't know how
or where to insert that picture switch using the Mail
Merge Wizard.

Hi Jere,

With the mailmerge main document active, Press Alt+F9 to toggle on the field
codes and you will see them appear as

{ MERGEFIELD [fieldname] }

Insert the \# "00000'-'0000" switch inside the closing } so that the field
appears like the sample I gave you.

Press Alt+F9 again to toggle off the field codes.
