550 Relay not permitted error

I installed office 2003 on my machine. It worked fine in the begining, but
now I have trouble sending e-mails. I keep on getting an error "550 relay not
permitted" Can anyone out there help me resolve this problem?

This error message occurred at my work too (Outlook 2000) The fix here was
to say the outgoing mail server requires authentication. To do this: In
Outlook, go to Tools...Accounts. Select the properties button for your email
account. Click the Servers tab, and at the bottom, under Outgoing Mail
Server, check the box that says "My server requires authentication."

Worked here everytime. Hope this helps!
