554 message refused

Using Outlook 2007 and I am getting immediate notices saying: 554 Message
Refused. It appears my message never leaves my computer. Mail server does
not receive the message.

Thanks for your response. In part you probably identified the problem.
Apparently an undocumented portion of Microsoft Outlook deals with error
messages that are returned when a message is undeliverable. I was getting
"Error message 554 Message Refused". The mail server was rejecting the
address because it was bad. A transcription error allowed an relatively
unnoticeable character into the address. Since prior mailings had worked,
the address went unchecked. The bad address had been auto-stored in the
contacts folder. No where in the Outlook help or on-line info system is
there any discussion of these errror messages. Thanks.

That's because the error you describe is an SMTP protocol error and would be
described in discussions about SMTP mail. Outlook is only one of many SMTP
clients. None of the documentation for any SMTP client I've ever seen
discusses SMTP protocol errors, since it's not a malfunction in the client
itself.
