6ooo old Emails dumped into Inbox of Outlook 2007 on Xp Pc

I have had 6000 old Emails (up to 2 years old) dumped into my Outlook 2007 Inbox on my XP pc.
The same Emails are also in my Webmail Inbox.
I do not not know how this could have happened, as everything was OK until Telstra introduced Live Mail recently.
Can anyone shed light on this and how to delete 6000 emails and prevent it happening again.
