To prepare for the 70-634 exam, I would recommend you carefully review all
of the content in our Managing Enterprise Projects... book and our
Implementing and Administering... book, both of which are available on our
Web site at:

http://www.projectserverbooks.com

The Managing Enterprise Projects... book details how to actually use Project
Server 2007, while our Implementing and Administering... book is how to
install, configure, and manage Project Server 2007 from the administrator's
perspective. The 70-634 exam is a scenario-based examination, which will
require your thorough knowledge from both books. The exam is written as a
series of "case study" scenarios, in which you have one or two pages of
textual information about a company's needs for setting up and using Project
Server 2007. After you read the scenario, you are asked 6-12 questions
about how to use Project Server 2007 or to set up Project Server 2007
according to the company's needs.

The exam is very well written, and I believe it gets at the heart of how to
deploy and effectively use Project Server 2007. It also helps if you have
real world experience with configuring and using Project Server 2007 as
well. Good luck on the exam. Hope this helps.

You are more than welcome for the help, my friend. As you prepare for the
70-634 exam, be sure to review the core knowledge required to pass the exam
at the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exams/70-634.mspx

Also, keep in mind that you cannot take this exam until you have passed both
the 70-632 and 70-633 certification exams. I couldn't tell from your first
question whether you have actually taken and passed these two exams. Hope
this helps.

Hi Vit, Dale,

I'm in a similar position, as I've just passed both my 632 & 633 and
now am keen to do 634.

Dale, I bought both of the books you mention, a couple of months ago
and am very impressed by their style & content. They're definitely
essential for anyone making a career out of EPM. As far as you're
aware, would I be able to pass the exam purely on the content of these
two books and some real-world experience with EPM deployments? Or is
it worth attending the 634 course and/or gaining access to the
courseware?

I'm surprised that MS haven't made available self-study guides for
these exams; the only official preparation apparently for the 634 exam
is a 5 day instructor led course. I can't afford 5 days off work, and
I learn best by reading manuals rather than classroom sessions, so I
was wondering if anyone (ideally in the UK) who has attended that
course wanted to 'come to an arrangement' with their courseware...?

Cheers,
Ben

If you have thoroughly read both of our books and have real world experience
with implementing Project Server 2007, you should be able to pass the 70-634
exam with flying colors. I really enjoyed taking this exam (and passing it
with flying colors), as it tested both how to use Project Server 2007 from
the PM's perspective, and how to set up and configure Project Server 2007 to
meet specific reporting and/or project management process techniques. Thus,
the exam requires knowledge from both books. As I recommended to Vit, make
sure you are familiar with the topical outline Microsoft provides for the
exam. This will tell you which content areas to focus on.

What I thought was unique about this exam was its scenario-based testing
technique. The testing approach was very simple: (1) Read a story, and (2)
Answer questions based on the story. When you take the exam, you will see
exactly what I mean. Good luck on the exam, and let us know when you pass
the exam! Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale/Gary,

Yes, I have read both your books, which as I mentioned earlier are
very well structured and contain all the missing hints/tips/tricks not
readily supplied in Microsoft documentation.

I'm going to book myself in for the exam and see how I go...

Cheers,
Ben
