800 X 600

Roger

I use XP and FP 2002, at 1024 X 768. As I have been
getting some complaints from 800 X 600 users. What do I
do so both can veiw my site? Do I just increase the side
indents or must I create tables for each page? Or?
Thank you

Most would suggest designing against the 800x600 users and
let the 1024 users view the smaller site. OR worse yet,
use percentages in your design. I say 1024 should be the
new standard. If you're still viewing sites at 800x600
get a new video card, or use the scrollbar.

What does a video card have to do with whether you view sites at 800 x 600 or 1024 X 768??
I have a fairly large monitor and a video card that supports 1280 x 1024 but I still surf and design
at 800 x 600

About the only simple options are using 100% width tables and dealing with the resizing, or 750
fixed width centered tables that will show as centered at higher resolutions.

But you are assuming the folk surf full screen, I run at 1280 x 1024 and never run any app at full
screen, as it defeats the purpose of have a higher resolution.

I run at 1152 x 864 on a 17" monitor and I never use a full screen either.
I always leave a 2" strip along the left side that displays my desktop. It
just gives me easy quick access to pulling things off and on... since I
usually don't clutter my desktop with icons.

I agree with the earlier response. Don't waste time with those still
viewing at 800 x 600 (no offence).

Knew it would get this kind of response. And quit frankly
you all make my point exactly. Running a higher
resolution than 1024 still supports my theory that 800x600
users are in the minority, and with your resolution the
amount of scrolling would still be limited even if you
weren't browsing at full screen.

I remember it wasn't too long ago that computers came out of the box at 600
x 480...and we moaned and griped about setting the standard to 800 x 600.

Now they're coming out of the box at least at 1024 x 768, and users are
wondering why it's so hard to see things on the monitor.

However, I design all of my web projects at 750 pixels wide, centered.

800 x 600 users still have a 47% share overall viewing resolution.
