96 dpi in word graphics

I hope to have my students enter a graphics art contest, however the only
editor we have at our school is WORD. One of the requirements of the contest
is that the graphic have a minimum resolution of 600 dpi. WORD saves
graphics with 96 dpi. Is there a way to change this?

Word is *NOT* a graphics editor, it's a word processor. If you're serious
about graphics, then I strongly suggest you purchase a proper editor - I use
Paint Shop Pro and the latest version, 9, has many features of more
expensive applications such as Adobe Photoshop.

Use a graphics application for graphics and use Word for the purpose for
which it was intended.

I realize this but it's the only program that we have. Do you know a way of
chinging the dpi?

No. AFAIK, there isn't one. If you're really serious about your students
entering that contest, you'd purchase proper software. You owe it to them.
You can't edit graphics in Word, bar the basics. How are your students going
to feel when they come last because you wouldn't buy them proper software,
and all the other entries were created using proper graphics tools?!

Think about it. Spend a little and they might stand a chance. Don't and
they'll come last.

Your choice.

Hi Mike,

It sounds like the requirement is for the
print quality of the graphic (as its expressed
in DPI (dots per inch)? (Is there a URL for
the contest rules)?

What version of MS Word or Office do you have?

If you have MS Office 97, 2000 or Office XP
you may want to look at the optional install
MS Office Photo Editor. It can save graphics
in different 'resolutions' (Pixels per inch).
Start=>Programs=>Microsoft Office=>Microsoft Office Tools

Word 2000 and higher can produce graphics in
420 PPI or lower through
Tools=>Options=>General=>[Web Options]=>/Pictures\

You may also want to look at http://www.irfanview.com
(free/donation for non commercial use) or
even using MS Windows Paint
Start=>Programs=>Accessories
for 'saving' the dpi/ppi information into the graphic.
There are also some free or free trial drawing programs
available if the school allows you to install other
programs.

The density of the bitmapped graphic (using Words editing
tools you're working with vector graphic tools and those
do not 'play by the same rules' when it comes to resolution
as they're scalable with the same quality).

I realize this but it's the only program that we have. Do you know a way of
