'97 db to be converted

I've inherited an Access '97 database which, when the back end is opened by
Access/XP, says it needs to be repaired or isn't a database file. (I no
longer have either '97 or 2k on my machine.)

I can open the front end okay, but not the tables it's linked to.

There is also an mdw file, and I can open it and associate myself with the
workgroup, but still can't get at the back end.

Any suggestions here?

Thanks,

Kevin

Find a backup of the backend... :-{(

It probably IS corrupted and may not be recoverable. Things to try:

- Create a new, empty database and use File... Get External Data...
Import to import tables from it. I'm not hopeful but it's worth a try.

- See if you have JETCOMP.EXE on your computer and use it to repair
the database without opening it (if you don't have it you can search
for it at http://support.microsoft.com).

- Contact Peter Miller at http://www.pksolutions.com for his highly
regarded database salvage service. Bring money (payable only on
success).

Hmmm.... the strange thing is that they're still using it on a daily basis.
I've tried the routine of importing into a new db, but it says it's damaged
or not a database.

I'm going to have someone at their site try to get into it and export it as
dbf and/or Excel.

Thanks, John.
