97 v 2k v 02

Have been asked to make some minor mods to A2000 on Win98...and it is not
possible to do so on the machine itself due to location/security/etc...

I have A97 on Win98 and also A02 on XP.... (and 03 and 07 but presume they
are not revelevant)...naturally the one thing I don't have is A2k

haven't fired up the A97 in a long time.....should the development be done
on the 97 or is the A02 viable....? common sense is of course some things in
02 might be unknown to 2k....but never have been too clear on libraries and
references and so advice on this is most welcome. thanks

You can't open an Access 2K db with Access 97, because they're incompatible
formats. But if you're only making changes to the tables or data, you could
use the ADO library in an Access 97 db and make the changes to the Access 2K
db via code.

But it would be easier to use Access 2002 or 2003 to make the changes,
because those are compatible with Access 2K format. Do this if and only if
all of the Access 2K PC's have Office 2K SP-3 installed, or they'll burn you
at the stake for destroying their db.

Don't use any functionality that's only available in Access 2002 or 2003, and
you'll be OK as long as the destination PC compiles the code in Access 2K
after receiving your updated db and before running it.
