_private folder not secure

R

Ron

I'm using FrontPage 2002 and saving form results in
form_results.csv in the _private folder. It appears to
me that the _private folder (and the file) can be seen by
anyone. It is not secure. I thought the _private folder
couldn't be seen. Am I doing something wrong?

I've seen a couple Knowledge Base articles (194239 is one)
about this problem or something similar, but the solution
doesn't seem to apply. It talks about changing the
properties of the _private folder. I see no changeable
properties.

It is supposed to be secure by default. Suggest you contact your host.

Hi Ron

your _private folder is not secure, try renaming the _private folder and see
whether that helps, if you go to your website www.example.com/_private ,
your folder is their

rename the directory and put it somewhere else
that will by all means sort it al out

if your domain a free one, if so you need to upgrade to take advantage of
the protection of the _private folder.

if you are paying for your sites web space, login to your account for that
web space and in your control panel enter the web space page and then find
the protected files and folders or pages , page there you can password
protect a folder.

who may I ask is your domain with?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I contacted the host. The tech support guy claimed that
FrontPage controlled this, that I could alter the
properties of that folder and make it forbidden. When I
showed him that I have no such option in my Properties
dialog, he "manually" changed the properties of the
folder at his end.

So, I ended up where I wanted, but I'm not really
comfortable with the solution. It seems like it should
either always be protected or I should have control of it.
