A 550 Error Problem

Trying to send a particular class of email using Outlook 2003, fully updated,
via an SMTP server (Groupwise) that requires authentication. Settings have
been confirmed with our IT guys.

I have no problem sending email to any other recipient in my domain (let's
call it school.edu) or out of my domain. EXCEPT for listserv lists. Sending
to (e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed), and (e-mail address removed) all
return 550 errors -- No Such Recipient. Note that my seldom-used Groupwise
client, after changing profiles and such, will successfully send to those
addressees. But not Outlook.

Any help appreciated. Please know that if the problem lies with the server,
I will need to know fairly precisely what to tell my IT people.
Unfortunately, I am a bit of a leper, one of a handful of Outlook users in a
hotbed of GroupWise people.

A 550 error is a server-side error. It is your SMTP server telling you that
there are no such recipients. Outlook had nothing to do with it. If
another mail client can access those addresses, then I'd guess that other
mail client is doing something to the addresses prior to sending to the SMTP
server.

Brian, I have to agree with most of your analysis. However, I can
successfully send to these addresses using Outlook off-campus and via a
commercial ISP. So I don't think the GroupWise client is doing something to
the address. I just don't know much of anything about the server side to
hazard a guess.
