A bit perplexed here

I'm trying to create a report that will effectively
print a #10 envelope, 4.125 x 9.5 inches.

The headers and footers are both 0" high.

The page setup properties are "page size" is
Envelope #10; Orientation is Portrait.

The "Detail" section is 4.125" wide and 9.5"
high.

A "label" is located in the upper right-hand
corner of the detail section as one looks at the
report's design view and the "label" has it's
vertical property set to "Yes".

(I've temporarily set the recordsource to blank
with the intent that only one page will be
printed while I'm testing.)

When I look at print preview, it appears that
everything is okay, except the page-count is "4".
Not wanting to use a lot of envelopes while testing,
I simply leave letter-size paper in the HP feed
hopper in the belief that I'll see what actually prints.
Allowing for the 3 blank pages to eject first, my
4th page looks okay. With that, I was convinced that
I was "close to home".

What I can't figure out is "why 4 pages"?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bill

The total area of your report's *sections* is greater than what will fit on a
page for the given margins you have set.

It is important to know that it is the "section area" that Access attempts to
print, not simply the objects you have placed in them so empty section area will
force new pages just as much as areas that contain objects. If you shrink your
section sizes up and/or to the left you should find a size that does not produce
the extra pages.

Thanks Rick. I had thought that since the report header,
page header and page footer had zero inch heights that
they wouldn't count in the overall size of the reports
"sections".

I fiddled around with another version of the same report
wherein I used horizontal text in the detail section resized
to that orientation and used landscape to print. I had to
keep shrinking the detail section until I got down to a single
page.

I'll pay closer attention to the aggregate of all sections
together with the sheet size margins as I continue here.

Thanks,
Bill

If they are set to zero height then they shouldn't contribute anything to the
total size of the report. Something else is the culprit.

I'll work with it some more to get a better understanding
and see if I can isolate the "culprit". Right now, as you know
from another thread, I'm trying to get shortcut menu items to
do what I want.
