A Few Guest Book Questions

B

Barb

Hi All,
I used Front Page 2003 to make a guest book and I'm testing it out but would
like to make a few changes if at all possible. My guest book is at
http://www.creationsanew.com/guest_book.htm The guest log is at
http://www.creationsanew.com/guestlog.htm Can the color of the horizontal
bar be changed on the log page? How can I make the newest post show first,
instead of last. When viewers click the Summit button, instead of going to
the confirmation page, I would like it to go right to the guestbook log. It
my requests are at all possible I would more then appreciate an explanation.
Thanks so much.

I don't see a horizontal bar. Do you mean the lines? If so use CSS to
style them.
How can I make the newest post show first,

Choose that option when you create it.

You would need to write your own guestbook for this.

In your form remove the link to the guestlog.htm page from within your form
- delete where you have

<p align="center">
<a href="http://www.creationsanew.com/guestlog.htm">
<img border="0" src="view.jpg" width="200" height="65" alt="View My Guestbook"></a><br>
&nbsp;</p>

Create a new page (say viewlog.htm) w/ the look you want and Include the log content
Insert - Web Componet - Included Content - Page and browse to your log page (guestlog.htm)

Then in your guestbook page Form Properties Options (on the Confirmation Tab) browse to the filename of your new page (say
viewlog.htm)

Excuse this newbie question but I 've seen
several posts containing a cryptic "inline" or
"See inline". What does this mean?

Hi Again Stefan,
Thanks Stefan, It's working. http://www.creationsanew.com/guestbook.htm
One more question if I may. Is there another way, instead of using CSS to
get the horizontal line bar a different color? Thanks so much for all the
help. Will everyone be able to view the guest book or only those with IE?
Oops. that is two questions. :)

You can apply a Theme to the Web. That way it will be an image
instead.
But why no CSS? It is very easy to do.

Everyone can see the page, it's simple HTML.

Hi Jens,
Why? Because I do not know much about it. I do a CSS already created for
my text rollovers. Someone from a another group walked me through it. Yes,
it was pretty easy but everything is easy if you know how to do it. :):):)
Can I use the same CSS or do I need to create another one. Can you walk me
through it? If so, please explain it to my like I'm a three year old.
:):):) Thanks for all the help.

Ok
But you shouldn't be using an absolute URL (http://creationsanew.com/guestlog.htm) for the confirmation page
- just use the file name as guestlog.htm

And apparently you didn't use an include page because guestlog.htm is just the raw log file with no navigation

Good Morning Stefan,
I took out the URL as you suggested and it seems to work fine.
http://www.creationsanew.com/guest_book.htm Not sure if I am explaining
this right but when you suggested I added an include page, I just squashed
the whole thing and started all over, so I did not think an include page was
necessary. Does that make sense. Once I get this the way I want it, I do
not plan on touching it again. I would like to know what CSS code I need
for the horizontal rule and where do I place it on my log page. Thanks!!!!

Hi JDS,
So far no Spam. Mine is at http://www.creationsanew.com/guest_book.htm
There are only a few posts but it seems like it is working fine. May, I
make I suggestion for when you decide to put up your guest book again? For
one, do not ask for anyone's e-mail. You are only causing them to be
spammed to death. :) Also any place on your site where you have an e-mail
you need a code to block the Spam. It really works as my spam as been cut
down in half. If you go to my site, look at the source of my pages that
have my e-mail and you will see the code. Here is the address to get the
code http://automaticlabs.com/products/enkoderform Hope this helps.
