A good way to hide the page number of a chapter-starting page other than using section?

Although the whole purpose of section is, among others, for such
occasion, I hesitate using sections when I need to hide the page
number of a chapter-starting page.

My work-around is to put an opaque text box around each page number of
the chapter-starting page.
I've found this method much user-friendly than creating dozens of
sections.

Hiding the chapter name (using styleref) that usually appears in the
header is much easier, by inserting the referenced style in the first
page then selecting the "hidden" character format.

Are there other easier ways to hide the page number of a chapter
starting page?

I would consider a section break with "Different first page" much easier and
more stable than your convoluted methods.

Hi DJ,

Don't know a good way, just work-arounds like your opaque text box.

Another work-around might be:

-- Create a new paragraph style, say "Tag", using white text and a very
small font size,

-- Put two paragraphs containing just the letters "y" and "n" in style "Tag"
after each "Heading 1":

-- Use in the header:
{ IF { STYLEREF "Tag" } = "y" "" { STYLEREF 1 }}

(If there is a "Heading 1" on the page, { STYLEREF "Tag" } will pick up the
"y", else the "n")

I'd use this work-around just for myself and on documents I'm not sending to
others.

Unfortunately, there seems to be only a way to find out if there is more
than one "Heading 1" on a page:
{ IF { STYLEREF 1 } = { STYLEREF 1 \l } ...
but no way to check if there is *one*.

Regards,
Klaus
