A Menu Problem with MS Word X

S

Stuart Glosser

For some unknown reason, the WINDOWS menu is a copy of the FONT menu.
Like the FONT menu, the WINDOWS menu lists all the fonts in Word. Is
there any easy way to correct this, i.e., restore the WINDOWS menu?

Thanks in advance

Stuart,

It sounds like the Windows menu has been customized. You can either manually
remove the Font menu from the Windows menu or you can simply reset the Word
menus.

Customize
1. From the Tools menu choose Customize.
2. Go to the Window menu, find the Font menu and simply drag it out of the
Window menu.
3. Click OK. You're done!

Reset
1. From the Tools menu choose Customize
2. Click on the Toolbars button to see all the toolbars available
3. Click on the Menu Bar toolbar to select it.
4. Click on the Reset button, then click OK. This will reset the toolbar to
the original default setup.

It is important to note that resetting any toolbar will cause you to loose
any and all customization that has been done to that toolbar.

I tried Eric's suggestion yesterday. While it was a good suggestion, it
didn't fix the problem I was having. If it doesn't fix yours either, try
this.

Do you have an older version of Word on your computer as well? If so, that
may skew results of removing simply the Word Settings (9) folder.

Quit Word. You'll have to remove both the Word Settings (9) file [System
Folder > Preferences > Microsoft > Word Settings (9)] and Word Settings (10)
[Library > Preferences > Microsoft > Word Settings (10)] from your computer.
Then restart Word X. This will remove any customization you may have done to
your menus.

My Word X was pulling its menus from the Word Settings (9) folder. Just
removing the (9) folder didn't solve the problem. I had to remove them both.

Good luck.
Rebecca
