A new copy of Office?

R

Richard Cavell

Hi, all. I have a Powerbook G4 that has been dropped too many times.
I'm going to retire it and buy a new Macbook.

I have a full version of Office for Mac from 2004 that I bought with my
Powerbook. It works perfectly with my Powerbook, of course. I use
Word and Powerpoint.

Can I install this on the Macbook without problems? I realise that it
will have to be run under emulation because it's PowerPC code, and may
slow down a bit, but I don't need it to be fast. I'd prefer to run
Word on OS X rather than install Windows on the Macbook.

Also, is there any problem with MS licensing or product registration,
given that I've installed it once already? (Once I've installed it on
my Macbook, my Powerbook will be discarded).

Yes, you can install it on the new macbook without any problems. You should,
of course, stop using it on the powerbook as well (in fact, the network
check built in to office will prevent you using both copies on the same
network), but there is not 'product activation' that ties you to a
particular machine, as there is on a windows version of office.

Hi Richard:

Do a "fresh install" on the new MacBook, don't try to copy it over. And
apply the 11.3 service pack before using it. If you fresh install, it
should run without problems. If you try to copy it, it can be very
unstable.

Cheers
