A problem with Word (Mac version)

I am having a problem with Word seizing up. Often, when I am typing in
the Notebook layout view and recording at the same time, when I try to
stop the recording, or save the document, the program freezes up and I
have to force quit. This is extremely frustrating. I have lost a great
deal of my notes as a result of this (it has happened about 20 times
over the course of 6 months). Can anyone please tell me what is going
on here?

I'm experiencing a similar problem when I try to save documents. Word
freezes, as does my computer, and the mouse cursor becomes the
familiar spinning rainbow circle. This occurs perhaps 50% of the
times I try to save. I'm unable to force quit and have to manually
shut down my computer. I'm running OS 10.4.9 and Word 2004 11.3. The
freezing is a recent phenomenon and has been occuring only since
recent updates. Is there anything that can be done?
