A small question about form making in Word 2004

I finally figured out how to put in text form fields...but now my
question is that once the form is protected and I can type to the
maximum of the letters listed in that text form field, when I press
the TAB to go to the next text form field, the typing actually starts
just outside of the original form field and doesn't jump to the next
form field. What's wrong
