In this technologically Internet oriented world, graphic media has become a
part of our daily lives. Many pages on the Internet are increasingly
containing more and more images. Blog pages get longer and longer. Soon web
pages will be at least half a megabyte in size. Although the size sounds
small, with the ever growing influx of internet users, combined with the mass
use of web applications, social networking, video sites, and file sharing,
the total file sizes will certainly clog networks and cause disruptions. I
propose that a System or Software real time data compressor be created to
ease and speed up the Internet. If made it will help both Users and Web
Servers handle the rising rate of files and data being transmitted across the
Internet. Below are two proposals for the idea.
System Version:
User clicks; action and data go to System.
Before sending over Internet, the System compresses the File.
File sent over the Internet.
File reaches other side.
End Server System processes and uncompresses file.
Compressed Response sent back to User.
User’s System uncompresses File.
File action/response and data shown on User Interface.
Repeat
Software Version:
User clicks; action and data go through Software first.
Software compresses file.
File sent through System and over Internet.
File reaches other side.
End Server Software processes and uncompresses file.
Compressed Response sent back to User.
User’s Software uncompresses File.
File action/response and data shown on User Interface.
Repeat
Since today’s computers and servers are becoming increasingly more efficient
and fast, a technique such as the proposed above can surely be implemented.
If this is ever made into reality, I ask that my name, Anson Liu, be visible
in the credits. Thank you.
