a Test.xls will not allow rename

Using Office XP. Original workbook name was
Inventory.xls. I copied and pasted all information into a
new workbook called Test.xls. Keep in mind it has macros
in it (if it makes a difference). Both workbooks resided
on one computer. I tried to delete test.xls, and when
trying to save changes to the Inventory.xls (original) it
will not save, and says it is looking for test.xls. I
restored test.xls, and inventory.xls works correctly. So,
I took the Inventory.xls, and pasted it into the
test.xls. Deleted the Inventory.xls. I can use the
Test.xls as if it were the original, but test.xls needs
to be renamed and it will not allow for the name change.
It is not a read-only.
How can I change the name?

Do any of the cells that you are copying to the new workbook hav
formulas in them? It sounds like maybe you are copying formulas to th
new cells that are dependent on information that is found in th
original workbook. If this is the case and you no longer need th
formulas you can always copy the data and then right click and choos
PASTE SPECIAL ---> VALUES. This will copy the numeric values only an
not the formulas.

Instead of copying and pasting info from the first sheet to the nex
why not just re-save the original workbook with a different name an
then re-open it and make the appropriate changes that you want to mak
it like your Text.xls workbook?

I should have been more specific. I apologize. Yes, I did
do a special paste. And yes, I did try to do save as and
give it another name. It didn't work. The weird thing is,
it was prompting for the test.xls which is not the
original source of the information. The system is
thinking Test.xls is the original source. Because it
thinks that, I went ahead and put all the information
needed from the original into the test. So technically
the test.xls is now the correct one, and is fully working
as should. I just can not rename it, by right clicking or
doing a save as.
Any other advise?
Sincerely,
Christine

Just out of curiousity are any links showing on the workbook that wil
not save? Click EDIT --> LINKS and see if the option is grayed out o
whether it is enabled and showing a link to another workbook.

I assume that this problem of not being able to save is specificall
related to this particular workbook and not to all workbooks opened b
Excel?
