A way to ID tasks by stages

I have a project that has 4 stages in in. Tasks are similar in each stage.
Is there an eas way to ID the tasks by stage withou having to entert "Stage
#" in each task name?

Use a text field. That way you can group by it as well.
Making a selection with the value you want at the top and hitting CTRL+D
should fill down.

If I understand correctly what you're asking, each of those stages should be
a summary task with its component tasks indented under it as subtasks...

Stage 1
Task 1
Task 2
etc
Stage 2
Task 1
Task 2
etc

or have you already done that and need to display the "parent" summary task
name alongside the task name in reports etc?
