Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I use to use the word "block-notes" (in french) mode which allows to record an audio file while taking notes. I love it.
This time I recorded longer files (sizes between 8 and 20 Mb ie approx 15 minutes..) but word freezes . I I get a recovered file, I get the text but lose the audio file.
Any way to find the lost audio file ?
why does word freeze ? I have plenty of space on the hard disk.

Thks

If you have "Always make backup copy" set in your Word>Preferences>Save,
then there will be another file in the same folder marked "Backup of..."

That file will be complete up to the time you last manually saved.

Other than that, without specialised software and knowledge, then no, there
is no way to get the audio back.

Word freezes because of bugs in the software. Make sure you have applied
the very latest updates from both Apple and Microsoft, particularly if you
are running on OS 10.6.

Then it will freeze less often.

Cheers

Thks, John
unfortunately, this "always backup.." was not set.

I am now in 10,62 and word 11,56

Would the audio behaviour work safer in office 2008 ?
I have a licence but did not move due to the excel macro limitations of 2008.
Possible to be in word 2008 and excel 2004 ?

No, Office 2008 is no safer with Audio files.

The most important thing is to avoid "copying" a document that contains
audio.

Create a new blank document for each session, record it, save it, and close
it. Then don't try to add to it again: it will be "safer".

But really: Word is not the place to do your audio recordings: use your Mac
to record audio files natively with Garage Band (if you have it) or Audio
Hijack or some other freeware utility.

Cheers

Sheperdcohen, this is great .... the trash ... 1000 thanks !! it may be too late this time, but next time ... will check the trash !

I hope the 2010 notebook version will solve that ... the audio feature is really very usefull (if safe of course)
