A2000 Format mde from A2003

I have upgraded to A2003 and have discovered that A2000 format mdb files must
be upgraded to A2003 format before creating a mde.

Can A2003 generate a A2000 format mde, or does it really matter? The users
of the database have A2000 loaded.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You need 2000 to make a 2000 MDE and yes it matters because 2000 cannot open a
2002/2003 MDE.

(You should not develop in a version newer than your users)

Thanks for the quick response.

Yea, I am quickly learning that it is not always best to upgrade. The DB
users have a mixed bag of A2000 and A2003...I recently found out that some
are using A2000 and I was trying to avoid getting and distributing A2003
runtime.

A related question: Any thoughts to the 3rd party ad-ins for compiling to
older versions of Access?

Thanks Again

As a developer one should acquire the newer versions, but as additonal tools,
not replacement tools. I have Access 97, 2000, 2002, and 2003 on my development
PC and use them all to provide whatever version my users need. My personal
preference is for Access 97, but I can "deliver" a solution in any version
required.

Never heard of any so I can't comment on them at all.
