A4 printing from Office

I'd like Office apps to default to A4 when I create new documents. At the
moment, even though I have A4 set as a default in the Print preference pane
of the System Preferences, Word etc defaults to US Letter size. There are 2
A4 sizes - normal and small - in Word, but neither comes up as the default
in new documents.

Arghhh. Is there a fix?

Yes. For Word, find your Normal template (probably in
username/documents/microsoft user data folder), open it up, and set it to A4
using File | Page Setup. The Normal file is used to generate settings for
the default new doc. You might need to hit space/backspace to tell Word
something needs to be saved, for the changed setting to take.

More info, or if you can't find Normal:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/MacWordNormal.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

I'm not sure how you do this in Excel or Powerpoint--you may need to ask
specifically in the groups dedicated to those programs.

Hi. I remember reading somewhere about this, this is, I think, a bug in Mac
OS. I thought they'd fixed it in an update later on, but since you're using
10.3.6, it doesn't look like it. What you need to do is to go to your home
folder>Library>Preferences. Inside this folder, you'll find a file called
com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist. Delete this one. Next, open TextEdit,
go to Page Setup and select A4, or just make sure it's selected. See if the
System Preferences Print tab also shows A4, and this should solve your
problem. If not, lauch Word, and in the page setup, select A4, and in the
Settings list, select Save as Default. If it still doesn't work, there's
still (among others) the option of changing the "Normal" template, but try
the steps I've mentioned first.

Yay. Works a treat - many thanks.
