Aaah!!! Installer won't quit!

When I start Word, it briefly shows Preparing to install... then,

Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to
the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this
problem, see C:\program files\microsoft office\office10\1033\setup.hlp.

I press OK. It goes back to Preparing and then to the error. Word loads
but this keeps showing up!

I don't have the CD, and it'll take a long time to find it. How do I
disable the installer?

If you get an answer to this please let me know. I have
the identical problem.

Hi Comex,

The MS Windows Installer that Office and other apps
use to manage installations expect to always have access
to the original installation media. An error 1706 is
saying that the installer has detected a problem and that
it needs the CD to repair it.

Hi Comex,

This problem started when I tried to install Speech, then realized that I
didn't have the CD and canceled it. I don't have the media.

I have the Original CD in the CD drive and the installer
does not even attempt to access the cd. I even copied
the cd onto my hard drive into the "All
Users/Application" directory and attempted to install. I
got the message that it was already installed.

Need new ideas.
