Ability to renumber WBS not consistent between views.

In working with both MSP 2003 and 2007, I have encountered a situations where
I can not renumber specific task WBS numbers (i.e. the renumber specific
tasks is grayed out) in one view but if I switch to another view I am able to
renumber the same selected tasks. I have encountered this on mulitple
projects all using a custom WBS definition and am not using the default WBS.
This is not a major problem, but more of a minor annoyance.
Any ideas what's going on?

Hello cgoetz,

What views are you displaying when having difficulty renumbering?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie,
Thanks for the quick response. The default view that we use is a customized
view based on a customized table containing the fields that we are normally
interested in seeing. Most of the time (but unfortunately not always) going
to the MSP standard Gantt Chart view seems to work. If that doesn't work,
then the standard tracking Gantt seems to work. The frustrating thing is
that it is not consistent, even though we use the same template for all of
out projects.
Is there something in the setup of the customized table that could cause
this problem?

You're welcome. I can't think of anything specific in a custom
table which would cause an issue. The only way I can reproduce
issues with renumbering a custom WBS is if I switch out of a Task
view into a Resource view or activative a resource view in a split
window environment. Then, of course the renumber command is not
available. But staying in a simple Task view and switching tables
or adding and removing fields does not seem to cause a problem.

Julie,
The views are all task views. If it makes any difference, while I am not
able to renumber selected tasks, it does give me the option of renumbering
the entire project when this occurs.
Thanks for the feedback. If i stumble on some cause of this problem, I will
post a comment.

Thanks for the additional info. I'll try some more testing with
just selected tasks and see if I can reproduce.
