Ability to Use Word and Access

D

Dick

I have MS Works, and am thinking of upgrading by adding MS
Word and MS Access. I don't need the entire Office
package.
Can I buy the upgrade versions and install them over
Works? Are the stand alone versions the same as those in
Office? Will my Works files transfer to Word
automatically?

Can I make an index from Access? I believe I can from
Word.

Thanks. Dick.

When you install Word and Access (two separate installs for two separate
products), these will be separate and distinct from Works. Works will
not disappear unless you un-install it.

I don't think the Works files will convert to Word DOC files. HOwever,
you can work with the files (read and write) in Word as Word can handle
Works's format (as long as you install the Works filter when installing
Word.

You can make Document Indexes with Word. You can make Database Indexes
with Access. They are in no way related.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

OT: have you considered the free OpenOffice for Word processing functions
that you need?
