abnormal program termination, microsoft visual C++ runtime library

Just received the above shutdown on incoming email attachment. Also get
runtime error notices and shutdown when in word. The program indicated in
this last incoming problem was C:\program
Files\Microsoftoffice\Office10\WINWORD.EXE any help for this "novice" would
be sincerely appreciated. Have read past runtime error comments suggesting
going to tools/templates and add ins to locate any templates or add ins,
where do I find this? in tools it doesn't show any reference!! "novice" as I
said.. Thanks.
