I have windows Xp with service pack 2. I received an amail from a buiness
that i do business with. the email had an attachment. it was scaned for
virusus and none where found. when i opened the attachment i had 2 choices
save to disk or open. i chose to open and run. i then received the following
: Runtime error. Program C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
10\Winword.exe. On a pop I got the following: abnormal program termination.i
then saved to disk and had a problem opening. Finally I opened attachment.
What is runtime error? did it harm my computer and/or did it permit a virus
to enter my computer. I use works 7.0 with word 2002. also how do I correct.
I also ran my antivirus program and no virus were found.

Runtime error under these circumstances indicates the presence of a macro
that has crashed. Never open attachments directly. Save to the hard drive.
Never open unsolicited attachments and make sure you have your Word macro
security set to medium so that you get a choice whether to run macros
contained in documents. Never run a macro in a document unless you know what
it does.

Macros can perform all kinds of tasks that you wouldn't like, without them
being viruses.
