Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Dear support,

Few weeks ago, I contact the support because I experienced some instability with MS-Word (12.2.4).

I have been in contact (by email) with "Paul B." that recommend me to uninstall and reinstall Office 2008 for Mac.

I follow the procedure but I am not able to start Office 2008 due to the following problem:
Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac HSE cannot start because Microsoft Office is already in use.

Strange problem as I am the only one using this license number.

Could you please help me to fix this problem as I am not able to use any Office 2008 product neither my email.

Thanks

Sorry, but this is not Microsoft Support. This is a public newsgroup & the
contributors here are not Microsoft employees. We're simply users helping
othe users as best we can. We do not have access to any incident reports or
other 'inside' information.

If you need further assistance on the same issue I'd suggest that you
continue to correspond by email with the same individual rather than
starting off in a different direction.

Hi Said:

What Bob said...

However, that error message is both reliable and unlikely to be wrong.

Somewhere there is a copy of Microsoft Office that is already running with
your Product Key.

If you have Home and Student version, you have three licence keys. If you
have installed any of the three copies using the same licence key, you need
to remove the bad key, or none of them will run.

To change the installed details, you have to delete two files. Make SURE
you have your CD Product Key available to re-enter before you do this,
because without it none of the applications will run after this.

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Microsoft Office 2008
Settings.plist

-and-

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2008:Office:OfficePID.plist

Once both files are gone, the next time you start any Office application, it
will prompt you for the CD Key. If the key is valid, you will get the
chance to enter the correct installation details.

Notes:

1) All Office applications must be quit at the time. If any are running,
this won't work.

2) You must delete both file: deleting only one has no effect.

3) You may need to set your finder Preferences to show hidden files to see
the second one.

To do that:

a) Open the Terminal window and paste in the following two command lines,
one-by-one, hitting "Enter" at the end of each one:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

killall Finder

b) After you have deleted the OfficePID.plist file, put the Finder back the
way it was. Open Terminal again, and:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE

killall Finder

Hope this helps

Hi

Sorry for my misunderstanding about the site.

I followed your procedure and now my license is properly recognized.

Thanks for your support.
