Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hello,
I would like to know about deleting prefs file(s) for Word 12.2.4 not to crash when saving documents.

N.B.: i still can save my documents with "save as..." command for Word to be not crashing by now.

Thank you for your answer.

Is OS X fully updated? Have you run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions &
restarted your Mac since applying any updates?

Crash on Save is usually the content of the document or a problem with the
file server. Prefs problems usually cause a crash on start-up, when the
Prefs get read in.

I'll repair permissions and wait before deleting some prefs file(s).
Thank you by now.

Thank you.

I've just made some search about mac os x file compression, and i didn't find something worthy.

Can i use MS Office with Squeeze?
Is there a conflit using MS Office with this kind of compression?

Thank you.

Hi Fabrice:

The "cure" is to delete the preferences. Repairing permissions is only to
ensure that the "system" notices that you have done that.

When we make a suggestion in here that contains two things for you to do,
generally we expect you to do them both, in the sequence we show. And the
suggestion won't work unless you do both :)

Looking at your crash dump, you really need to delete those prefs :)

Cheers

@John McGhie : i'm used to do "first things first" and wouldn't like to loose my settings for instance.
I could delete all my prefs files to i will loose all my settings, and i would prefer not to do so.

So, could you tell me more about what prefs file(s) to delete?

Thank you.

BTW, i've check Word 12.2.4 on my Powerbook PPC (with no mac os x file compression) : it saved documents quite rapidly and without crashing.

No, we have never been able to find out what information is stored in which
prefs. If you want to do this surgically, move your prefs onto a data
stick, then reboot.

Allow Office to create a brand new set of prefs and see if that cures the
problem. If it does, you can bring the old prefs back, one by one. Then
you can tell us which one was causing the problem :) If it doesn't cure
the problem, then we have to proceed to a full remove-and-replace.

I am sure you won't lose anything valuable by deleting the preferences. It
will take you less than five minutes to re-set them. Considerably longer to
do a full testing and analysis job...

Cheers

I'm sorry you don't know which prefs file(s) to delete.

So, i did a complete replacement of all of these files : it was old files anyway and Office is quite new as i may say. Word saves dock normally.

Thank you very much for your support.
