About the number of Enterprise Project custom Fields

Hello,
The number of custom fields is theoretically unlimited, but I was told that,
for performance issues, we have to restrict the number of Enterprise Project
custom Fields in EPM2007.
Do you have any experiment on this aspect?
What would be the reasonable maxi number of such custom fields?

At one client site I used 40-50 custom fields and didn't notice any system
performance issues. However when it came to project managers filling in all
the fields, then there were issues!!

Performance can be an issue with views when you approach 40 to 50 custom
Enterprise *task* fields. There are few cases where anyone requires this
number of task fields.

I agree that the number of fields I had to add was partly due to having
different departments having conflicting requirements, and that a true
enterprise view of the implementation - or multiple implementations - would
have probably made more sense
