About using Cached Mode

I just discovered that it's possible for someone to start my computer. Fire
up entourage. By-pass the name and password dialog and read my mail without
being logged in.

What the heck is this? If there's such a thing as Cached Mode in Entourage,
how do I turn it off?

Thanks

Are you saying you have set up to require a password to log into your
computer? Or is the password that's being bypassed your Entourage account
passwords?

I'm confused. Entourage contains your data. It doesn't startup empty. If
they can open Entourage they can see everything you do.

The best way to keep your data private is to use a password to login to your
computer. This way they can't get to any of your files.

To require all users to log in to the computer:

1) Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and click Accounts.

Open Accounts preferences

2) If settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator
name and password.

3) Click Login Options.

4) Choose Disabled from the $B!H(BAutomatically log in as$B!I(B pop-up menu.

5) Select the login window options:

$B"#(B To have users select an account from a list in the login window, select
the $B!H(BList of users$B!I(B checkbox.

$B"#(B To require users to type their user account name and password, select the
$B!H(BName and password$B!I(B checkbox.

$B"#(B To display an account$B!G(Bs password hints, select the $B!H(Bshow password hints$B!I(B
checkbox.

To add to Diane's comments...

Microsoft's implementation of Entourage and passwords is not a security
feature. Your accounts simply require passwords to connect and download
mail. It's the responsibility of the Mac OS itself to provide security
for your E-mail storage and other documents.

If you're concerned with someone looking at your mail then you should be
equally concerned about him looking at files on your Desktop, in your
Documents folder, etc. Protecting your entire user account is preferable
rather than just trying to protect one part of your account.

Hope this helps!
