abrubt shutdown

Every time I open an existing file OR try to create a new
file, Visio just shuts down. I've reinstalled it twice,
and downloaded the only patch that remotely relates to
this problem (q278261) and it still behaves this way.
I'm running Visio 2000 on Windows XP service pack 1.

Any ideas????
