absolute coordinates vs relative coordinates

Can I change what shows in the status bar from absolute coordinates to
relative coordinates? It's an autocad thing. I need to be able to start a
line and take it to a given length by watching the status bar or typing the
length on the keypad.

i already know about opening the size and position window to change the
length after it's drawn and moving the giudes however that is
counterproductive, too many steps.

You might have to create an add-on. An add-on can see which shape is
selected and report properties about it.

Old versions of Visio had a property-line add-on that allowed you to type
lengths and angles and describe a property outline. It dropped shapes as you
moved.

Try Tools > Add-ons > Visio Extras > Move shapes

This allows you to copy and move shapes in rectangular or polar coordinates.
You can do this on a guide point, then quickly draw lines between the guide
points when you're done.
