Acc2002: Crosstabs: Column header length limit?

J

JotKa

Dear all,

crosstabs in Access 2002 seem to have a limit for the length of column
headers: 20 characters. Queries with headers that differ only after the first
20 characters do not work.

Any suggestions to get it work? Is there, e.g., any registry parameter that
could be adjusted?

Thanks for every hint,

JotKa

I think you would find the same thing to be true for field names in a table
or controls on a form.

AFAIK, there is no workaround. Make sure the first 20 characters are unique.

I just tried to simulate the problem in A03 and had no problems with either
the column or row headings having more than 20 characters.

What do you mean by "do not work"? Are you getting error messages or
receiving unexpected data returned?

I just tried to simulate the problem in A03 and had no problems with either
the column or row headings having more than 20 characters.

I'm VERY sorry for having trusted our - usually reliable - client, and not
having tested it myself ... esp. after having heard of the problem already
more often.

Meanwhile I tested it myself, and could not find any problems with the
crosstab query.

receiving unexpected data returned?

The error message that the client reported was: "Field cannot bei defined
more than once."

As I was told only now, it only appears when using the crosstab as the
source for a serial letter. So it seems probable that the problem does not
result from crosstabs, but from serial letters.

I will do some further searching for the reason and report its results.

I want to apologize once again for unnecessarily having occupied your time,
and to thank you very much for your assistance!
