ACCENT OVER Ä«

I need to place an accent mark over the inserted pronunciation symbol Ä« (long
"i"). Normally I press CONTROL/ACCENT MARK/LETTER to accent a letter. But I
can't figure out how to add an accent when I insert the symbol Ä«. Can anyone
help me?
