For Spanish using Times New Roman font, normally we create acute
accented vowels in Word for Macintosh by pressing option key + e,
release, then typing the vowel needed and it appears in the document
with an acute accent. We can also create acute accents with even fewer
key strokes by changing the keyboard to Spanish via System Preferences
English or the flags (or alphabetical character) for any other
languages selected. Changing the keyboard to Spanish requires only
pressing the left bracket key ( [ ), release, then typing the vowel
needed. These two methods for typing acute accents for Spanish work
flawlessly in most cases.
For reasons unknown, occasionally neither of these two methods of
accenting vowels will work. We are forced to go to the Insert > Symbol
to select the acute accented letter from the character pallette, a
most tedious method of typing. Does anyone know why acute accents
sometimes fail to appear using keyboard shortcuts or keyboard
reassignment as they should?
