you're right, certain parameters are really important in
creating a database that will perform well. but i don't
think anyone will try to tackle such a broad question in
this format.
if you're serious about creating a valuable, reliable
database for your company, and have little or no
experience, i can't urge you strongly enough to get some
training. take some Access classes, locally or on-line;
purchase a good manual - i can recommend the Microsoft
Access Bible, there is an edition for each version of the
software; and i'm sure there are other good references -
and especially try to get some education on data modeling.
a good table/relationships design will make the rest of
your work 100 times easier.
if you haven't the time for all that, and your database
will be an important tool in your company, suggest you
hire an Access developer to do the job for you. it will be
well worth the expense in the long run, and you can learn
a lot too - to help you prepare to tackle the next
database job yourself.
