Access 1.10 MDV file conversions to

T

I have an old Access data base that has never been
updated over the last decade. I have been told by a
consultant that the new version of Access will not
convert this earlier .mdv files to the current format.
Does anyone know if this is the case?

I assume you mean MDB files, and yes, it's true that the latest version of
Access (Access 2003) cannot open Access 1.x files. To be honest, I forget
the last version that was capable of converting those files.

A97 can convert a 1.x or 2.0 MDB.

I was 99% sure 97 could, and that Access 2002 couldn't do 1.x, but I wasn't
sure about 2000

I have a note that states "Microsoft Access 2000 can convert Microsoft
Access 2.0, 95, or 97" as per ACC2000: Converting Databases with
Non-US English Characters [Q202479]

A2002 help states When you open a Microsoft Access version 2.0
database, an Access 95 database, or an Access 97 database in Access
2002, the Convert/Open Database dialog box asks you to choose between
converting and opening (enabling) the Access database. "

A2003 to convert A2.0 gives you the following message:
Error Message: You Must Install the Microsoft Access 2.0 Converter in
Order to Convert This File
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;830271

Dunno about you but I'm getting kinda confused. <smile>
