New computer has windows XP, bought Student edition of
Office 2003 only to learn I need Access for this online
class I'm taking.

I have Office 2000 Professional Edition with Access on

Yes it will.

The preferred approach is to install Office 2000 first, installing only
components that are not present in Office 2003 (e.g. do not install
Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Outlook). Name the folder into which it's
installed "Office 2000" instead of just "Office" After installation, go
to the Microsoft Office Update site (www.microsoft.com/office , "Update"
over by the right-hand side) and update the Office 2000 components fully.

Then Install Office 2003, name it's folder "Office 2003", and after
installation do it's updates.

Of course, if you want, you can just install Office 2000 and not use
2003 at all, but 2003 is, generally, a better product than 2000.

You may want to "merge" the two installations as far as the start menu
and [if used] Office Shortcut Toolbar are concerned.
