Access 2000 compact and repair

Hi, when I run compact/repair on db (about 5mb), the compact process halts
at about 25% complete. I can close the db, then re-open and continue to use
as normal. What types of things might prevent a successful compact process?

Typically corruption. However how long have you let the compact halt?
I'd suggest giving it several minutes of non movement before
cancelling it. Also note that seeing non-responding in the task
manager window is misleading when doing long running operations such
as compacting.
