Access 2000 Full with Access 97 runtime

I am having some problems with a distributed application which uses the Access97 runtime when a full version of Access2000 is on a client's PC. If they used their full version of Access2000, our 97 runtime app would not start. Error msg ("Can't be started. Unable to intitialize Windows Registry. Rerun MS Access or Office setup install", vbCritical).
If install is rerun then 97 runtime app works fine untill full version of Access 2000 is started again.
