Access 2000 Linked Excel Table conflict in ODBC driver

I am currently using a Access2000 database that has several Excel 2000 worksheets linked as tables. I have had problems running the database on several machines where table is interpreted as ASCII characters. I do not receive any errors reading the file it just doesn't recognize the fields as good data although it does display the columns and headings properly.

To this point I was able to update the local MDAC on the machines I was experiencing problems and the problem went away. I now have a machine I updated to MDAC 2.8 and it doesn't recognize the fields which contain currency or dates?? Any ideas would be appreciated!
