Access 2000 mde file in Access 2003

I distributed an Access 2000 compiled mde file to someone
using Access 2003 on XP. They keep getting an
unrecognized database format error. From what I have read
on the knowledgebase they are compatible. Has anyone else
had the problem.

You can't make a 2000 compatible MDE in Access 2003. You need to make your
MDE using Access 2000.

Compiled A2000 MDE file can only be used with A2000 software, *not* A2002 or
A2003 software. It has been like this in earlier versions of Access.

Note that even though A2002 software can use an MDB in A2000 file format,
you have to convert the MDB to A2002 file format *before* you can make an
A2002 MDE file using A2002 software.

Actually, you CAN use compiled MDE file in 2000 format with 2002/2003.
However, you can't use MDEs compiled in 2002 or 2003 with a previous version
of Access.

Thanks for the correction, Paul.

I read enough posts about using A2K0 MDE in A2K2 (admittedly, I have had
problems with this combination) and am not sure of what I was thinking when
I wrote the reply.
