Access 2000

I have 2 problems with access 2000 running under XP which
I feel may be linked.
If I try and use Runapp from a command button to run a
small 'bat' file it does not work since changing to xp
but did with win98se. The bat file works fine from its
directory and the path is correct in access 2000
I want to open a mail merge file from a form using a
macro. The mail merge file is perfect but it will not
open. Again the path is correct

Any clues
